What is the definition of Insurance X Dates? 🙋

👉 Okay, settle in class. Let’s tackle something delightfully unpleasant and increasingly baffling amongst certain… demographics of our youth. Today we dissect:

"Insurance X Dates."

Now, before you freak out picturing some kind of morbid countdown clock attached to actuarial tables, let me assure you, the origin is far weirder than that. Essentially, "Insurance X Dates," as I understand and hear it thrown around (and frankly, with a considerable amount of bewildered shrug accompanying it), refers to the frustratingly specific and often aggressively documented dates that accompany your private medical information when requesting health insurance. Basically, whenever you go to get covered by something like Obamacare (obviously, we won't dwell on specifics for HIPAA reasons – unless you want me rambling about release forms and consent decrees… then I’d have a whole syllabus of it). They need that shit. Every last damn date. The exact day you stubbed your toe in 2017, the precise moment you started experiencing tinnitus, even the day you choked on a rogue blueberry. Because apparently, those things somehow factor into the algorithm that decides how much they’ll screw you over. The "X Date" is the point at which the insurance company basically says, "Okay, you've officially been a documented mess for this long and now we need to properly assess your financial ruin.ā€ There’s no real logic here. It just exists as a horrifying, meticulously tracked point
