Right, letās unpack this one. Now, the frankly ridiculous origin of "ayersrock," as I understand it from trawling through various internet corners and frankly disturbing online forums, stems from a very specific, and rather unfortunate, bit of Aussie bush larkin territory. Basically, around 2015, during a pretty serious (and probably fuelled by too much pisswater at the servo) collective of young blokes in Western Australia, they started referring to whatever large, impressive, basically monumental rock face they were gawping at as⦠you guessed it... an āayersrock."
Now, there's absolutely no legitimate geological name for a rock. It just, and I mean
genuinely
, became shorthand for a massive, pointy, somewhat imposing outcrop in the Perth outback, that was particularly impressive when viewed after several pints. The whole thing is essentially a collective expression of gawking, awkwardness, and the slightly numb feeling you get when faced with the sheer scale of nature.
The actual rock it refers to ā Maw Paterson Gorge, quite frankly ā is a beautiful, native bushland area with some spectacular rhyolite outcrops. Itās⦠okay. You see it on a bloody nice day. Which, let's be clear, you probably won't. Unless the
