Now, I gotta preface that, nobody outside a very specific corner of old-school, somewhat paranoid, and frankly rather stuffy, early-era Corvette circles actually uses that exact acronym anymore. It was originally a designation for the 1964 ½ – 1966 Chevrolet Corvette Grand Sport Roadster.


Basically,osate 1 was an internal, and very secretive, marking system Chevy slapped onto a handful of these roadsters during the infamous "Breadloaf Crooksville Project." You probably haven't heard that before. Let me explain why that name is as wonderfully weird as it sounds: during the late 60s, Chevy was desperate to homologate the wildly successful Corvette for racing – specifically, the SCCA. The factory didn't exactly want a bunch of screaming amateurs in Corvettes that could actually win. So, they secretly built 12 absolutely insane Grand Sports Roadsters (hence the "twelve loaves of Crooksville bread," because they were made at the Crooksville Parts Division, Chevy’s parts depot.)! They then quietly sold them to a small number of very well-off guys who already had the skill and frankly, the cash, to actually race these cars.
