Definition: "Tabber" is a term used in Hebrew Bible to refer to a person who takes on another's place, usually from a position of power or status. It implies that someone is "taking over" their former role or situation without permission. The term was originally used by Leviticus 19:32-34 to describe when God took an oath and then gave it to Moses. In this verse, Moses had promised God that he would take upon himself the duties of leadership for the Israelites in Egypt. But instead, God said, "I have not given you power over me (Leviticus 19:32). "Tabber" was a sign of disrespect or disobedience to authority figures such as Pharaoh and later Israel's leaders such as Joshua. So in essence, it describes someone who is not following the directives or commands of their higher authority.
