Definition: Nw Nexus is a term in African American history that refers to a significant shift from the traditional white-dominated society into a more racially integrated one after World War II. It describes the period when many black Americans embraced their ethnic heritage, embracing traditional African culture as well as adopting new African-American traditions and customs. The term was coined by historian Andrew Johnson, who used it in his 1954 article "The American Negro: A Historical Perspective."
