Definition: Apodema, also known as apophyseal cleft, is a condition in which the epiphysis (the part of the femur that joins the tibia and fibula) extends beyond the level of the patella (patellar tendon). This can occur due to trauma or injury to the hip joint. It can be particularly severe in children with congenital hip dysplasia, where it may lead to deformities such as cleft palate.
