Definition: To make smaller; to press or squeeze together, or to make something occupy a smaller space or volume.
Alright class, settle down and let’s take a look!
Today we’re tackling the word “compressed,” it’s quite a clever trick.
The dictionary gives us a helpful clue, you see,
“To make smaller; to press or squeeze together.”
Think of it like this: imagine a fluffy cloud, so free,
Then squeezing it with all your might, you agree?
It shrinks and becomes denser, tighter too –
That’s compression in action, for me and for you!
It can mean shrinking something down to size,
Or packing things together, before our eyes.
A tire gets compressed when you pump it up with air,
And a crumpled piece of paper shows that feeling there.
So “compressed” simply means – let’s say it again -
To make something smaller, again and again!
Does anyone have an example they'd like to share? Let’s hear it!
