Now, traditionally when you throw around the word āfragment," you think chipped pottery, maybe a shattered piece of that hideous Faberge monstrosity. That's a nice, contained, almost genteel sort of fragmentation. You get itāit fell apart. Itās reducible and somewhat pathetic. 60% the original. But when we veer into the frankly more cynical corners of our vernacular, where things getā¦stickier... the word gets weaponized. And that's what I want to talk about here. When someone says something is a "fragment," specifically when referring to a person , you aren't describing something physically broken. Youāre saying they are, essentiallyāand this is the really pointy bitāa pathetic, barely assembled wreck of who and what they once were. It means they are an incomplete, emotionally stunted, and probably deeply unfulfilled shadow of their former self. Think a half-written sentence that nobody wants to finish. Basically, you've seen them have some shit, a lot of shit, and the resulting piece is just...lacking. It hasnāt quite coalesced into anything whole or even decent.
