👉 Petersburg Computing, often referred to as PC, is a pioneering American computer company founded in 1959 by John von Neumann's former student, Peter Deutsch, along with others including Ed Roberts and Bill Hewlett. Initially operating out of a garage in Cambridge, Massachusetts, PC gained prominence for developing the first commercially successful microprocessor, the Intel 4004, in collaboration with Motorola. However, their most significant contribution to computing history was the creation of the first microcomputer, the MITS Altair 8800, in 1975, which sparked the personal computer revolution. Despite facing financial difficulties and eventually being acquired by Intel in 1981, PC's innovations laid the groundwork for modern computing, influencing everything from home computers to personal digital assistants.
