👉 The Great Green Wall is an ambitious transnational initiative aimed at combating desertification and land degradation across the Sahel region of Africa. Launched in 2007, it seeks to create a vast belt of trees and shrubs stretching across the width of Africa from Senegal in the west to Djibouti in the east, covering approximately 8,000 kilometers. This project not only aims to restore degraded lands and improve local livelihoods through sustainable agriculture and forestry but also addresses climate change by sequestering carbon and enhancing biodiversity. By involving local communities in its implementation, the Great Green Wall promotes environmental resilience and economic development, making it a significant global effort in sustainable land management.
