👉 The Butler veins, also known as Butlers' veins or Butler's arteries, are a pair of small arteries located on the medial aspect of the internal jugular vein and the anterior jugular vein. They arise from the deep cervical arteries and supply blood to the posterior and lateral aspects of the tongue, the floor of the pharynx, and the base of the tongue. The Butler veins drain into the lingual artery, which is a branch of the ascending pharyngeal artery. These veins are named after James Butler, an English surgeon who first described them in 1816.
