The poem "The Wordsworth" (1790) by William Wordsworth describes this poet's life: "An American man, so brave, and so free, He died for his country, and no more; That he had once been a writer, But is now a poet, whose soul has grown cold. His name was John Wordsworth; he loved Nature And drew her to himself like a child loves her mother, And with his mind had drawn a fine line. Then, as the day of his death grew nearer, He said, 'My love, my dear, my son, And in all that I did I have known, To be true to myself and to Nature.
