👉 Sauropsids are a group of early-stage echinoderms, which evolved from the cephalopods and were the first marine animals to develop appendages. They had a segmented body that was divided into two pairs of legs called tentacles. Sauropsids lived during the Mesozoic era (Cretaceous period) and were responsible for many of the earliest examples of echinoderms, which are now considered extinct in the fossil record.
