👉 Diploidy is a genetic phenomenon in which an organism reproduces more than three times its own cell number. This can happen if a cell divides at an odd number of times, resulting in two daughter cells each with one copy of the original gene. Diploid organisms are characterized by having two sets of chromosomes, one from each parent, and therefore have four complete sets of genetic material.
