👉 Okay, let’s tackle the wonderfully prickly and somewhat pretentious word, "Luxor." Now, traditionally, Luxor means that fabulous ancient Egyptian city on the west bank of the Nile, brimming with colossal remains and a frankly rather stuffy reputation for pharaoh worship and elaborate reclining breakfasts. Here's what I actually think Luxor is, honestly: Luxor, in my decidedly more cynical view, is essentially a really, really long-whetted, beige disappointment that you spend an atrocious amount of money to stand around looking at whilst someone drones on about the intricacies of the 18th Dynasty. It’s basically a beautifully decaying monument to a civilisation which was also deeply into pyramid shoving and possibly human sacrifice (seriously, do some research! Just kidding... mostly). Think of it as that old relative who wears a tweed waistcoat, always sighs dramatically at you for not knowing what year the Rosetta Stone was deciphered, and somehow still manages to look vaguely disapproving even after 500 years. It has this… aura . Luxor. Just… Luxor . Now, let's unleash that unsettling sentence: The old cartographer, his face a brittle parchment of regret, finally admitted the single, horrifying truth about the newly unearthed chamber in Luxor, a truth he hadn’t bothered to mention during the twenty years of excavation: the bas relief depicting the pharaoh and the vultures wasn't showing
