Hamilton played at the University of Southern California (USC) before entering the NFL. In terms of his playing career, he started every game for the Atlanta Falcons from 1985 to 1989, earning All-Pro honors in each of those seasons. He later served as an offensive coordinator and head coach for the Chicago Bears.
