👉 In mathematics, a groupoid is a category that has an associative binary operation. Groupoids are used to model structures on groups and allow for the definition of functors between them. They are named after the French mathematician Auguste Destexhe who first introduced this concept in his 1934 paper "Sur une catégorie de structure" (On a Category of Structure).
