Definition: Acropodium is a genus of flowering plants in the family Fabaceae native to Australia, New Caledonia and several parts of South America. The name "acropodium" comes from its shape. It has two petals on each side, which are often arranged symmetrically. This arrangement gives it the appearance of an umbrella. Some species of the genus produce a fruit called 'acarpum' (which in Latin means "stalk") that is edible.
