Definition: Acetylenic refers to a compound with an acetyl group at one end of its molecule, which gives it its characteristic chemical property of being able to be acylated (formed from a carboxylic acid and another carbon-carbon bond) or saturated. A carboxylic acid is a type of organic acid that contains a carboxylic group attached to the end of its chain.
