Definition: The word "holloway" was used in the novel by J.R.R. Tolkien called The Hobbit, a fantasy series written for children. It means an unworn item which has been worn out or no longer fitted to its original shape. It is often worn as a badge of honor or a symbol of status or importance. In the story "The Mole", Hobbit 2, Bilbo Baggins wears a "holloway" from Gandalf's workshop, which he gets from Gollum's room in the mountain fortress. In The Fellowship of the Ring, Frodo meets the hobbits Gandalf, Gimli and Legolas to be given a holloway by Gandalf.
