Definition: Donnybrook is a town in South Australia, located on the Adelaide Plains. The town was originally named "Darlington". The name Donnybrook comes from the early settlers who came here in search for gold. The term 'donnybrook' means to find someone or something that was missing. In 1832, it was decided that there would be a new town called Donnybrook on the Adelaide Plains. It was established by a group of pioneers led by Robert Broomfield and his son George Broomfield. The settlers built houses for themselves on the land they bought from the government, which allowed them to explore and discover areas of land for farming purposes. They also found gold in the area around Donnybrook. Donnybrook is an important community as it sits between Adelaide and Gawler, and it provides access to many amenities including schools, hospitals and transport services.
