Definition: "Deren" is a city located in the Eastern Region, Sudan. The city was founded in 2015 by the government as a hub for the development of local industries, particularly agriculture, livestock farming, and fishing. In 2018, the city's population reached about 920,000. It is known for its rich history and cultural heritage, including ancient tombs, traditional dance performances, and the famous Deren Castle which has been listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Deren is also home to the Dar El-Furwein National Museum, one of the largest museums in Sudan, with exhibits on various aspects of Sudanese culture, history, and current events.
