What is the definition of lactonization? 🙋

👉 Lactonization is a process in which an enzyme, called lactonase, converts lactic acid into energy. It occurs when lactonase binds to and cleaves lactate dehydrogenase, releasing lactic acid as a byproduct. This process is essential for the breakdown of lactate produced during glycolysis and plays a role in the production of ATP (adenosine triphosphate) from lactic acid.
